[Jared7] - 05:41pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#1 of 417)

Isaiah is my favorite memory as he got me into Paulinism and anti-Paulines, but that's probably way too obscure for most of you
now.
Actually, my favorite memory is getting to know so many brave gays and lesbians out there who are not afraid to express views
behind an annonymous nickname:-)
Uh, there's always TPS - that moribund site!
Non-sequiter alert! Man, I love skiing!!
Go Hoyas!! Beat Maryland!!

[Sacerdotal] - 05:45pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#2 of 417)

It's about "TIME" and probably AOL more than "TIME".
I would love to have been in that Executive Meeting to learn what the real reasons were.

[Jared7] - 05:52pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#3 of 417)

Yeah, maybe if we "Star Trek" them with lots of e-mails, they'll relent or perhaps publish their reasons, but I doubt it. Any favorite
memories??
Another one of mine is when Thear taught me how to use colors - yeah, like it worked!
J

[Jared7] - 05:59pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#4 of 417)

Uh, one of my least favorite memories is of each and every thread that I started, they ALL sink to the bottom in a matter of seconds.
Banking law reform?? Anybody remember that one?? I doubt it! Only if I start ranting about how unfair life is for gays and lesbians
do I get any attention (although bacchus is always good for a great debate on just about anything and everything!)
J

Dance as if no one were watching [~Libby~] - 06:02pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#5 of 417)

Gosh, I had almost forgotten about Thearacon. He did those marvelous html posts in LIVING color. lol
Jared, I remember your encounters with Dittophile very well. What fun, eh? *G* I am still in touch with him and will have to let him
know the boards are closing. This is really sad.
I have favorite memories all over the place, but I suppose my ultimate favorites were from the race threads, and the many
wonderful people who spent so much time there (as I did) discussing and cussing. :) I will never forget the passion, but most of all
the education I got on those threads.

[Jared7] - 06:09pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#6 of 417)

Hi Libby! Yeah, Ditto and I had a real intimate little thang going there for awhile. He's so cool! I loved it when he put me down in post
after post after post, never yielding an inch!! Uh, I stayed off the race threads after Shah read me the riot act one day. I remember
your best posts were on the abortion threads with all sorts of posters who now seem long gone (but are probably still here just with
different nicks).
Sorry if my crush on Thear sounds like sort of a never-ending obsession.
But Blue Lime Rules!
J

Don't get up, gentlemen, I'm only passing through. [moonberry] - 06:19pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#7 of 417)

Ya might wanna check out the latimes discussions if ya wanna meet some really incorrigible nutwads.

[Jared7] - 06:21pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#8 of 417)

Another fave is Ol Perf's trillion+ goodbyes, which were always eloquent and well-stated.
And Jollyollie, who I think remains extremely pissed at me for supporting the heroic and life-saving effort in the Balkans!!
And Steveny - what a funny guy!
And SusieQ, who always starts me humming CCR.
J (*desperately striving for this thread not to sink dramatically and precipitously to the bottom of the ashcan of history*)

[Jared7] - 06:28pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#9 of 417)

And who can forget Wardaddy, who was the very first to welcome me here and who's last communication to me was to call me a liar!
And Jim Stirckland, who I suppose is off in Arabia somewhere and who totally ruined my Deep Throat threads with all that Linda
Lovelace talk ...
JBoy (*about to give up on this whole memory thang and launch into the Anti-Jared Freeper that I truly am*)

Dance as if no one were watching [~Libby~] - 06:31pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#10 of 417)

I think we have about three or four "memories" threads going on, Jared. Don't know if they'll all stay up or not. We only have two
short weeks before it's all gone. :(
Shah...my precious level headed Shah, read you the riot act?? LOL I must have missed that...or forgotten about it. There were soooo
many race threads. Same with the gay threads, which I also spent some time on. All you guys were marvelous...very good with your
arguments. Always a pleasure to read.

[Jared7] - 06:37pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#11 of 417)

Well, I took the other threads to be bitching and whining threads whereas this one could be the memory thread. As usual, I am being
ignored, but that goes with the territory:-)
Yeah, I said something mild about liking Hootie and the Blowfish and that pretty much stamped this anti-apartheid activist (i.e., me)
as a racist forever. Go figure.
And speaking of the gay threads, there was nobody like Hambone:-)!!!!!
J

[Jared7] - 06:48pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#12 of 417)

And of course, my vote for fave nickname of all time goes to Locutuss of Borg!
J (*yeah, like anybody other than me is ever going to post on this thread*) Thanks Libby!

Dance as if no one were watching [~Libby~] - 06:52pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#13 of 417)

LOL! I'm sorry, Jared! I LOVE the title! Love Barbra Streisand and that song! *G*
I remember Locutuss! Gosh, many have come and gone....and my "memory" is not what it used to be. *sigh*

[Johnnyba] - 06:54pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#14 of 417)

Yes I remember Locutuss as well. He was a good guy.
Jared you remember the fellow who called himself the Devil's Advocate?

[La Lil'One] - 06:56pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#15 of 417)

Anyone recall Marfark? ...truly one of the odder posters.
Also, one of my favorite exchanges was between Babette and Panama Hank on a Chicom "takeover" of the Pananam Canal.

[Jared7] - 07:00pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#16 of 417)

Locutuss was a riot but nobody compares to johnnyba, who set the standard in wit, intelligence, analytical acumen, good looks,
friendship, collegiality and all-round great-guyhood.
Yes, I remember the Devil, who served his master so very well!

Oh, so THIS is your thread, Jared!
the Mighty Thearchon,
Yes! He was quite a regular, than one day, he's gone. There's so many like that. Recently TSean was posting regualr, then he
suddenly left. It leaves you feeling kinda empty...
Fauforde and his refusal ever to look me up in Chitown,
Aw, heck. I actually haven't been for about a year. Tell you what, I am planning to come in a month or so. THEN we will get together.

[Jared7] - 07:09pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#18 of 417)

Hiya fauforde2! Yeah right, and the checks in the mail and I won't come ... (*JBoy desperately scheduling a trip to Thailand next

The SeanMan! Way too McCainesque for me, but otherwise too cool!

GOPers define Count the way Clinton defines Sex [ElPrimo] - 07:11pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#19 of 417)

Too show you how long I've been here, check out this poem I wrote to some Pathfinder regulars in July of 96. Before Clinton defeated
Dole.
Though it s like arguing with Stone.....I must pick a Bone....With a Texan named Tony
He s a Texas Cornpone....Of whom it is Known....That he luvs Guns and fat Macaroni
He ll go into Town.... And vote for H. Browne.....Who s ideas are loony and Phony
Now he luvs all his guns...Cuz nary a One...Is made by a firm named of Sony
His best fiend is Mel...Who gives so much Hell....To Liberals and all of their Ilk
But Dole s polls are all down....So Mel puts on a Frown....And cries all over Spilt Milk
If he d quit Teasing Lee...Then surely He d See.....That Clinton is smoother than Silk
The scandals they Rage.... But with the Minimum Wage...The Republicans Money he Bilks
Now poor dear old Lee....Can t see Forest for Tree....Cuz she s much too Proper and Staid
But surely she d Know....Her mind it would Grow....If only She d try getting Laid
For Bill Clinton it s worked...He s not such a Jerk...And a wonderful President he s Made
Now DittoPhile is Amazed...For Sowell he is Crazed...That people don t think he s too Smart
If only his words would make Sense...He wouldn t seem Dense....And maybe we d look at his Charts
Now I ve had too much Drink....I can t hardly Think....And hope I haven t been Mean
But to the Big and the Small....From Student Of It All....I m stuck in a nightmarish Dream
That Clinton will Stumble...The ball he will Fumble....And Dole will become the new King
Now I know he s too Old.....His character he s Sold ....And he d screw up a really good Thing
So beware the Smug Look....Work Hard, Hook and Crook....And Clinton s Praise you must Sing
And at the end of the Year....We Surely will Hear.....That Bill Clinton has captured the Ring.

[Jared7] - 07:18pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#21 of 417)

Great Poem Primo! I came (er, arrived) soon thereafter, but I remember just about all of those mentioned.
The graceless Cubbies, huh?? I'm not sure if I can walk that far (about a block and a half). I've got it - I'll go skiing again (*JBoy
recovering from monstrous tear of ACL or something like that which his nephews call "old man's knee*)

I'm always tickled when I can serve as the impetus to get someone to listen to CCR. *G*
This seems like as good a time as any to let you know the Christmas card I sent you was returned -- "Addressee moved, no forwarding

Well thanks Jared. :) You're not so bad yourself.
Now where the heck is Snow Pea? He seemed to disappear a while back.
Dave I'm still hedging on weather or not Hambone was even really like Hambone. It almost seemed like a charecter somebody really
bored came up with.
Or maybe he's the guy that does the Fred Phelps web page.

Susie!! The blond bombshell!! Uh, the address remains correct - I was away for over 6 weeks and our wonderful post office decided

okay now, but I'll e-mail you anyway.

Or how about the Julia Butterfly Tree-sitter thread? I think this board was where I first heard about her, and then later in the real
news...Ferret Mike/Hobbb always ran a neat thread.
And Sherrie G seeing that Alaska Airlines plane crash into the Pacific...wow...she was there on the coast when it crashed! And

obnoxious named Oscar who made my blood boil with his dingbatty ideas about homosexuality....but he and I came to like and respect
each other. I miss him...he went to Saudi years ago and had no access.
There were the wood chisel threads. Paradise Cafe, the Rumpus Rooms. Playing with Tony in the race threads...and Muehlbauer.
Where did he go?

Ol'Perf [Ol'Perfesser] - 09:02pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#45 of 417)

All right....since there is little chance of me becoming re-addicted between today and tomorrow, when I go on an extended business
trip that will carry me past the drop-dead date for PF, I figured I would contribute something to Jared's memory thread...
.....DESPITE the rather "praising with faint damns" catty comment about my million goodbyes!!
*pfffftttttt*
*wink*
I stepped into this brouhaha in '96, about the time of the national political conventions.
The folks I remember most pleasantly from that time were Kadien, Sherrie, GreenHag, Isis, Yancey, GW, Jollyollie, Nocable, Radmod,
Wilycat, Bricklayer, Armyman, alwright, Duh and Sundance. Looking at that list now, I see how few have persisted to the end of the
road here.
I remember the night that Bob Dole fell off the stage during his campaign, and the hilarious thread Kadien started mimicking him
as a song-and-dance-man, only to have a lot of small minded and humourless individuals snipe incessantly about that. Gee, if only
they could have forseen the four years of guttersnipe character assassination that were going to show up AFTER the election!!!
I remember the Dinner Party from All History, with Sundance as the quintessential mime.
I remember the Roy Rogers/Dale Evans send up in the Republican Rumpus Room, and the "Panama Hank for President" campaign.
I remember the New Years Eve party at which Duh seduced The Incredible Me! live on line, only to discover that he was an underage
high school boy..*G*G*G*
I remember Roger Gay, who blamed the entire world's problems on the stupidity of women and the bad treatment men got from
heartless ex-wives after divorce...LOL...and how he raised the hackles of the Gutter Grrllls. *G*
That was before we blamed everything bad on Bill Clinton, of course. *wink*...continuing retroactively now and into the far, far
future. No need for any active pursuit of the real causes of problems, hey??
I remember serious and interesting discussions on science, including the Space Program, with Dr. Planarian, Whatsupchuck and
SusieQueue....
I remember Cybeeria, over on the old Introduce Yourself board, where Tom's Single Malt Shoppe also persisted in a little pool of calm
gentility, for the most part at least....
I remember Crethar's poetry threads...
I remember lots more....and perhaps I will get back here once more before the deep, dark, night closes around PF.
But if not...I hope each and every one of the participants here finds somewhere on the net, the outlet for political expression their
talents best fit...*G*

[Duffy] - 09:02pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#46 of 417)

La Lil,
And McDuffy turning me on to that documentary on the troubles in Sierra Leone.

No problem :-) Thanks for listening and being respectful about it. There was a lot of brutality in that country. They are real people
with real faces. You seemed to be able to grasp that very well unlike others that ridiculed my grandmother's brutal death at the
hands of the rebels. You also gave a link (that I saved) about a company that used to be in Dayton (that had close ties to SL). Sierra
Rutile, I believe. I know Sierra Leone has a wealth of (badly managed) diamonds, but I didn't know about the other main natural
resource. I wish you and your SO well. :-)

He's a good friend and he stood by me through a lot of 'stuff'. I'm glad that we got the chance to get to know each other. I hope we

Ol'Perf [Ol'Perfesser] - 09:22pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#56 of 417)

Jared, it is the idiot administration that is afraid of appearing homophobic ...or homophilic!! Either way...they are against extremists
on both sides: those who want to deny homosexuals equal rights, and those who want to ensure those rights.
heheheheheh
Of course, no one associated the "Rainbow" appellation with homosexuality until they decided to ban the name. Then of course, both
sides immediately seized on its symbolic nature, meaning that everything is now cast in concrete and compromise is now impossible.
At least we got rid of that weird mascot, who looked like some 16 year old on steroids...HAHAHAHAHAH
Of course, not EVERYONE can have a mascot as spiffy as Bucky Badger.
I mean, look at that silly hackey sack that GW's team is forced to use as a mascot!..heheheheheh

Hi Wardaddy! I only deserve to be called a liar when I actually lie (which, according to my dittohead nephews is often)! Don't worry

"The Truth is the Highest thing a Man can Keep" [Shroom] - 09:42pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#64 of 417)

Damn...
I came here back before Clinton's first election...
Marcus was still the moderator, and it was a few months later that Dave started being the co-moderator...
Remember the "Ask Marcus and Dave" threads?
Sherrie and I threw rocks at each other, bloodied many a room.
Ferret Mike, known as hobbb back then, and I got into many a fight over Gays in the military. I'm surprised that neither of us got
banned over some of the shots that sailed through cyberspace during those discussions.
Surprisingly, Sherrie and Mike are two people I count among my friends here.
We still don't agree often, but the discussions are alot more civil. *G*
There there was SBB, Sunbaked Bob. I remmber listening to Rush one day when Bob got on the air with him. Rush ate him for lunch!
There are just too many people who have made these boards too much fun to be able to express in words.
I'mm gonna have to put together some notes to have a proper good-bye to post on the 30th.

[La Lil'One] - 09:43pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#65 of 417)

I used to get Treetop and Talltimber confused...Talltimber was a Kentuckian retired factory manager from around Bowling Green...a
Centre College alum...I enjoyed talking KY politics with him (and used to accuse him of really being a Republican...he did convince
me otherwise).

[La Lil'One] - 09:45pm Mar 19, 2001 EST (#66 of 417)

Goodlord...I remember SunBakedBob...great handle...he had that little poll going that was showing Buchanen doing so good back in
the primary season....and didnt he do that site visit to the Cheney house...taking photos? Or was that Serious Summer?
This board was around in 1992 and 93? Before Clintons first election?

[FAUFORDE] - 08:42am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#67 of 417)

Ol Perf!
Glad to see you came back for one more "goodbye"!! <g>
There's just too many memories right now..I have to sort them out sometime.
I loved the time the Non-cussing software was intorduced and it took Hank about an hour to figure out how to get around it, which
meant that damn near everybody started trying to get around it. A whole thread was devoted to people ..well..just cussin'! I even
remember Libby using the F word. [GASP!] That was a perfect example of encouraging people to do something, by telling them they
can't. It was hilarious.

GW........... [Mr. Buckeye] - 09:14am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#68 of 417)

fauforde: The cussin' thread could be my all-time favorite thread. I can't remember ever laughing so hard.
A close second was the thread: "General Noodlenipper wants you for his all-gay army!" Remember that one?
And of course, the wood chisel threads were classic......

Susan [sjscruby] - 09:28am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#69 of 417)

LOL...I remember that cussin' thread, AND Gen'l Noodlenipper, and the wood chisels. So many memories, so little time....
I really have missed SnowPea, and since I changed computers, I no longer have his email. SnowPea...if you see this, please email me
at sjscruby@yahoo.com

Susan [sjscruby] - 09:32am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#70 of 417)

I think one of my favorite things about these boards/communities is the way people (of ALL stripes, colors, political persuasions)
rally round when someone is in need of support---death, divorce, kids, parents, surgeries, illnesses...whatever. We've been through
a lot together. I realize, as Mel so often reminded us, these are only words on a monitor, but even Mel saw the outpourings of support
when he lost Hart. They may be only words on a monitor, but those words come from individuals who care...

Pitbull on the pant leg of opportunity [DaveGin] - 09:36am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#71 of 417)

We are a funny little family, aren't we, Susan.
Affecting and infuriating, all at the same time. Who said the online world isn't like Real Life?

Susan [sjscruby] - 09:44am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#72 of 417)

So true, Dave...in many ways it seems to be more real than Real Life. I think many of us share more of ourselves here than we do "out
there." *g*
And I have to agree with others---part of what has kept me coming back is the people who irritate me the most. LOL

[Yippie-Ki-Yay] - 09:48am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#73 of 417)

A few weeks ago when the supposed "boycott" took place & a few of us hung around.
And I did a little experiment on how to post while consuming alcohol (the results were about as one wuld ax-u/me) LOL!
Been fun folks (and just think, a while back Limbaugh said this place was dead! Who'da thunk that he'd be right)

Anton [Anton] - 09:48am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#74 of 417)

Dave Gin:
Do you have anyway of checking board history?
Without getting personal (no names), can you tell us when the board started, including its previous incarnations?

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. [geogent] - 09:50am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#75 of 417)

Ol'Perf, your posts brought back a lot of fond memories. Thanks. After your first list, I was trying to think of the name of the poster
who suffered the divorce thing and you came up with Roger. If I recall, he was living in one of the Scandanavian countries.
Thanks.

Susan [sjscruby] - 09:53am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#76 of 417)

I hope he can, Anton. I know I started with TOL on AOL in the spring of 1995, but I also know it had been going on for some time
before that---that is just when I got my first computer, and it was one of the first places I landed.

Breaking up is hard to do [FAUFORDE] - 09:54am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#77 of 417)

A close second was the thread: "General Noodlenipper wants you for his all-gay army!" Remember that one?
LOL! We had a lot of fun on that thread, GW. That wasn't too long after I joined. As I remember, it was a spoof thread of some anti-gay
"Homosexual Recruitment" thread that everone laughed at. Except JCIL, (or one of his many incarnations) the thread parent.

GW........... [Mr. Buckeye] - 09:58am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#78 of 417)

Your memory is good, fauf......

" Who said the online world isn't like Real Life?"

My wife. She asked if I was going to lose all of my imaginary friends...

Susan [sjscruby] - 10:05am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#80 of 417)
ElPrimo...it IS difficult to explain to those who have never been here. ;)

Herb [knitknee] - 10:06am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#81 of 417)

My earliest memory of posting here is a late-night exchange with Kadien that ended abruptly with a severe tongue-lashing. Kadien
took exception to me starting a post with the words: "Try paying attention ... ."
At the time, this experience brought back (and then replaced) nightmarish memories of my fifth-grade teacher and a very thick
wooden ruler.
LOL!

Breaking up is hard to do [FAUFORDE] - 10:10am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#82 of 417)

She asked if I was going to lose all of my imaginary friends...

The BF has no sympathy for me. He doesn't understand...and there's no explaining it to him. "You've never even MET any of them",
was about the last thing he said to me on this subject. I think he's just glad I won't be on the phone lines when he calls.

GW........... [Mr. Buckeye] - 10:14am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#83 of 417)

My first encounter with Oregon Jim was back in '95.
He came on like gangbusters and started making fun of ex-President Reagan soiling his undergarments.
We had a few disagreements.........
Then, in '96, Jim announced plans to travel to the GOP convention in San Diego and engage in disruptive activities...........something
about LSD in the water supply and engaging in lewd activities with GOP women.........
I got a little hot under the collar over that.......
During an e-mail exchange in '97 or '98, OJ disclosed some personal background information that made me see him in a whole new
light.
I have found it impossible to get upset with him since then.

Susan [sjscruby] - 10:16am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#84 of 417)

Fauforde...it really is impossible to explain to those who don't know---many of the people here ARE family. *g*

Anton [Anton] - 10:20am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#85 of 417)

I just told my wife at work....
who must now try to figure out how to keep me from chasing her around the house with all this free time!

I know, they really are.

GW........... [Mr. Buckeye] - 10:24am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#87 of 417)

When I told my wife the news last night, she said:
"Oh, geez. From the tone of your voice, I thought it was something really bad."
There's no way to convey the sense of this place to outsiders..........

Herb [knitknee] - 10:25am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#88 of 417)

Try wearing a George Bush mask.

you (because you have more courage!).
Man, I missed all those cool threads y'all mentioned. Skipping months on end I suppose has its consequences.

And it ain't ever going to be on my profile either! I do not wish to be spammed by freepers/homophobes if I can avoid it.
I used to worry about that, but my hotmail account has been listed on and off, for a long time and not once was I ever bothered.
But....if you've been hanging in Freeperville...maybe I would keep it secret...

[Yippie-Ki-Yay] - 10:58am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#93 of 417)

I'll miss MANY of the liberals (or those who are to the left of me) that I've had the pleasure of having trite, snippy, and tough
argument with, including Fauforde, Libby, hoeker, TreeTop, Ferret Mike, Sherrie, Geogent, Summer, etc.
I'll think of some more....I'm still recovering from a massive virus & have the intellectual capacity of a Palm Beach voter this
morning, so all I can conjure up are the handles of the assholes, so I'll shut up.
BTW, hope AOL uses the same keen eye for profit when allocating Jesse's salary for his shittily (my own word, hoeker!) rated show.

[Jared7] - 11:17am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#94 of 417)

And how could I forget robny - who really won the Presidency!! And Rocketman!!
I've already mentioned my favorite adversaries - dittophile and bacchus, but there were many others. Anyone remember that guy
from Newfoundland that Thear couldn't stand?? What was his name??
J

The Compassionate Liberal - Kinder & Gentler [Oregon_Jim] - 11:45am Mar 20, 2001 EST (#95 of 417)

During the 1996 election I was working with a grass-roots political organization involved in housing issues for working poor
families, food distribution to shelters, etc. and one night I was down at the "office" (such as it was) they had an old beater computer
with some early modem so I showed them how to get to this web site - which at the time was owned/operated by CNN and it was called
All Politics.
Anyway several of the folks got interested in this board and how it worked - a place where folks could start a discussion on just about
any topic and get an incredible range of view - from the inane to the pointed/centered and on both sides of the political equation.
But the most fun we had was one Sunday night we had been smoking some really powerful pot and a couple of us had ingested some
"Liberty Blues" and we came up with "Top 10 Signs You Know You've Had Too Much To Drink At The GOP Convention"
We posted it about 3:00 AM Sunday night/Mondaymorning and by noon we had over 200 posts - and the Repuba-Bubbas were livid.
Especially over the one about Reagan giving a speech at Marineland - "Go out and win one more for Flipper"
LMAO

[Cleve] - 12:02pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#96 of 417)

To all Republicans I've run across at TOL, hope to catch you at another site along the way. The sun has risen, with the election of
President Bush and Al going to pasture and the awful Clintons finally out of the White House. We can anticipate that New Yorkers
will see the light and give Hillary the boot next time around.
To the liberals onboard, drop your day job of being dissatisfied with everything. Hope happiness won't be a stranger to ya.
The Greens aka liberals. Your fight for Nader helped defeat Al, for which I thank you. Otherwise...lay off so much wacky backy, get
your heads straight, and get behind your president. :>)
Adios.

I will miss all of you, really!!! [BrujaVerde] - 12:03pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#97 of 417)

Okay, some of my favorite memories:
Being a GutterGirl and terrorizing Roger Gay. He loved every minute of it.
When Sherrie was prancing around in her diamond bra.
My thread, "Not necessarily Ranting and Raving," over on Society, which many friends from here joined just to talk about things
other than politics. Mostly football, it was a good one.
When everyone would start silly threads, and take turns hijacking them into something ridiculous.
Michael Meulenburg's theory of human adaption to marine life on styrofoam floaties. He was so out there, but of course, being me, I
felt sorry for him, even though he claimed to hate the universe and embraze Nazis.
JCIL - How could I forget the one poster who really got me good? He had a knack for just pissing the liberals off with his ways. Even
though he was run off the boards by a gang of us, he was worth watching in action!
Most of all, I said it before, but I will say it again, the best time I ever had here, was when I needed all of you most: TallTimber, Tony,
Sherrie, GW, so many of you were there when my boy was in the hospital and we didn't know if he would survive. And I would post
updates. That was a lonely, scary time.
Yes, all my imaginary friends are dissappearing!
AOL Sucks.

better to do with his time that post magnificent ly colored posts.

Who can forget the 2000 elections, man that was one wild ride to say the least.
Trying to post here was really hilarious...by the time you wrote something to a thread, 30 more messages were posted...it was
impossible, crazy, annoying and heartbreaking night, plus trying to keep up with all the netwroks and their reporting...and I am so
glad I could spend it here on the Politics board with you people. How can you beat that for a political junkie? I feel lucky to have
witnessed election 2000, and even luckier I had this place during it.

Hiya, JaredBoy! I was also trying to think of Isaiah's name. I think my favorite time was on Rhiannon's 'Atheist Agenda' thread, with
Isaiah and Bill Munz. Even when they weren't posting, we had some great discussions twixt us.
Actually, I give Babs some credit. I remember the very first time she responded to me on a thread I was frequenting. Her post was so
inane, so sophomoric and so lacking in understanding of the topic that I assumed she was some mental dificient who had accidently
wondered in. I simply responded "nice post" and let her go.
She has since become considerably adept at researching her stuff, has always remained perfectly civil and taken our best shots with
grace.
I always regretted that she got the boot -- everyone needs a foil.

[Jared7] - 01:00pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#113 of 417)

So... If you were one of the guys reading ... tell me?

[Jared7] - 02:08pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#119 of 417)

Hi susan - I think you do have it via Perf (I've read your latest two!) I get it - you and fauforde are ganging up and forcing me to list
my e-mail because you're really bikerthug and Mel.
I don't know fau - I'm listening today and Rush said he knows this site "very well" and there are certain similarities (which I have
been discussing on another thread). It's fun to speculate, and if it is true, then my notorious battles with ditto take on a new meaning
for me.
Who can ever forget when he launched that AIDS thread the very day after the new stats, which totally contradicted him, were
released?? Ditto was flabbergasted that he was so wrong and had to backpeddle and backpeddle and backpeddle just to retain
consistency. And who can ever forget his attempted rants about the numerous religious organizations changing their tune on gay
pastors and he was left with the Mormons only (and then some LDSer totally contradicted him)??
It'd be too funny if they were one and the same!!

The Shrub, from CO2, to see you later [Ferret Mike] - 03:10pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#134 of 417)

Snow Pea! Good to see you. You must have read my mind as I just asked about you on another thread.
Good to see you Snow, we missed you.

[Jared7] - 03:13pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#135 of 417)

Chicklet - I just *knew* it had to be Bear and Cooter, who seem to be about the strongest heteros on the board.
Snow Pea, You DID NOT WIN!! I was completely and totally accurate and jollyollie was so mad at me about Bosnia that he just ruled me
out of order for nothing!
Fau, my/our battles with the dittoster were classics. Of course, Dave didn't save them (and like I could figure out how to do that). Man,
it would go on for month after month after month and he would just lay into me like nobody's business and never yield an inch. I
hope he stops by and insults me yet again before this all ends and I take another 6-month vacation from the net!!
That thread where he attempted to prove that the Jewish religion condemns gays and lesbians (and then linguist, like, totally
contradicted him was my all time fave in this format). Monsignor Blue Lime's thread on Religion and Gay/Lesbian Rights was my
all-time fave in the Wabbit format!
J

Snow [Snow Pea] - 03:13pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#136 of 417)

Chicklet, I'll get my e-mail to you. Say hey to Chicklita and tell her Boy is fine -- all grown up but still acting like a kitten.
Dave, the funniest thing about Limbaugh is the fact that these boards must have bugged the hell out of him. Why else would he make
any mention of them?

Snow [Snow Pea] - 03:16pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#137 of 417)

In any case, Jared, I got the plaque hangin' over my mantle and you don't! Nyah, nyah, nyah nyah nyah . . . ;-)

[Jared7] - 03:22pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#138 of 417)

Snow Pea, yeah, it's kinda like Bush and Gore. I *really* won, but you get all the glory and get to be President while I have no life
and jollyollie continues to hate the very idea of my existence.
J

Pitbull on the pant leg of opportunity [DaveGin] - 03:26pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#139 of 417)

My thoughts exactly, Snow. Why the hell would Rushette care about TOL. TOL didn't think much about him.

Les personnes faibles ne peuvent être sincères. [surferchicklet] - 03:28pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#140 of 417)

Not Bear and Cooter, Jared... Just Bear...
Maybe Cooter was one of the lurkers tho...
Good deal, Snow... We haven't been up that way yet... I had pneumonia at the holidays...
Chicklita's got a new bird the Boy would like to meet I'm sure... We will be coming back up by June I think...

Dave,
Why the hell would Rushette care about TOL. TOL didn't think much about him.
Speak for yourself.
Some do like him.

Les personnes faibles ne peuvent être sincères. [surferchicklet] - 03:29pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#143 of 417)

I don't mean to be picky or anything, but wasn't it "Like the corners of my mind?"

Les personnes faibles ne peuvent être sincères. [surferchicklet] - 03:30pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#144 of 417)

Dave can speak for me...
What he says makes more sense...

[Jared7] - 03:37pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#145 of 417)

Picky, picky!! So I composed an original work of authorship fixed in a tangible means of expression only slightly different than the
actual famous song. I was figuring linguist would be the first to notice, but no, HE'S BOYCOTTING MY THREAD like a total dufus! And I
have said countless times that BLUE LIME RULES, but does he show up?? Typical Tennessean who thinks Sam Houston and Davey
Crockett are more famous as Tennesseans than Texans!! How arrogant of him!! And like Locutuss is going to show his Borg-implant
dominated face!!
J

"The Truth is the Highest thing a Man can Keep" [Shroom] - 03:38pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#146 of 417)

surferchicklet,
It's the broad, general, and sweeping comment of Dave's that I objected to.
Of course most of the Lefties don't care for Rush. But unless Dave is also saying that only what the Lefties believe matter, then his
comment is way off mark.

Pitbull on the pant leg of opportunity [DaveGin] - 03:46pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#147 of 417)

Is this where I get to snarl and shout obscenities at you, Shroom?
I choose not to. Of course it was a broad, sweeping comment. It was intended as such. I believe you have passing experience with
such things.
Truth is, with the exception of episodic events, Limbaugh and his show was not that much of a presence here.
I was simply agreeing with Snow Pea that Rush's singling out TOL suggests it bugged Rush a hell of a lot more than Rush bothered
TOL.

Pitbull on the pant leg of opportunity [DaveGin] - 03:47pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#148 of 417)

For example...I doubt either TOL or I will be featured anytime soon in a column by William Buckley, who is likely unaware we existed,
much less are retiring.

Snow [Snow Pea] - 03:48pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#149 of 417)

Seems to me, Shroom, that Dave IS speaking in general terms. There's little question that the majority of people who post here --
conservative and liberal alike -- don't think Rush is anything more than a lousy, self-serving entertainer. Care to take a poll?
And you can be sure that Rush checked in here every once in a while to have his delicate sensibilities offended. We all know Rush
can dish it but can't take it.

I'm ever on the Kwaj, I promise to look him up.
Another favorite Republican is glencar, who I liked because he said I was smart once.
J

Well, Jared, you really know how to bring people onto your threads. Now, if only you'd done this with your "Banking Law" thread...
I have many memories of TOL. Some aren't very fond but as the dump closes down. let's accentuate the positive. I enjoyed the Book
threads, the race threads, the Lara & Sherrie threads. I think my favorite night was when the Kathleen Willey story first opened. It
was while Miss Monica was servicing Bubba but before we actually got the rest of you to see how sleazy he was. Lotsa fun there with
Lara, RC, Mel, Rhi, Libby & others. I'm going to miss you people...

"The Truth is the Highest thing a Man can Keep" [Shroom] - 03:50pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#151 of 417)

I believe you have passing experience with such things.
The only experience I have with this is what has been posted by the lefties on here.... I am, by nature, a quite specific individual.
Nary a general or broad and sweeping comment did I post. :)

[Jared7] - 03:58pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#152 of 417)

Thanks glen! How's the tennis?? Yeah, well, I have to admit that I've been baiting quite a few people to come and say good-bye.
My favorite thread with you was the Mt. Rushmore thread (the one where you said I was smart). Didn't you, like, really get into it
with Liz once (or more than once)?? And someone questioned your sexuality and I defended you??
And gee thanks for broadcasting my crush on Thear in bold letters yet again!
J

I Tell You the Sweet Things In Life [ex-glencarr] - 04:04pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#153 of 417)

Tennis is great, J! I've been winning lately...
I had a great skiing season this year. As for Liz, the less said the better. She has a load of problems & I'd rather let bygones be
bygones...
It's funny but I had decided recently to post less here. I've gotten busier with other things in life & politics sin't what it used to be. So
many threads lately have been rather insubstantial. Still, it's weird to see the end in sight.

slopes!! (Uh, I also hurt my knee badly). Yeah, I too have taken a Loong break for a wide variety of reasons (mainly because Blue
Lime is so arrogant!)
Man, I lost Locutuss' e-mail too! And Thear's (but perhaps I'm hitting that point a little too hard). Linguist was here last night!
I'm considering actually posting my e-mail but I'm still way too chicken.

Hm. The less said about my relationship with Glen the better, but I *have to say this much:
In roughly 98, someone else suggested to me it would be hilarious to say Glen was really a woman. It doesn't matter who, because I
*chose to run it. I said to everyone that Glen had told me he was a woman. It was me who started the rumor and I apologize for it now.
It was juvenile and puerile and I'm kind of embarassed by it.

Jared it was a challenge to debate with you -- you were so slippery and evasive. I enjoyed beating you, seeing you flee from the
threads. I do, however, think your memories of those ol' debates need to be refreshed -- you seem to have romanticized memories of
them:
[Jared7] - 02:08pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#119 of 190)
And who can ever forget his attempted rants about the numerous religious organizations changing their tune on gay
pastors and he was left with the Mormons only (and then some LDSer totally contradicted him)??
Hmmmm. Going back into the Ditto archives....This is the last post I gave on the topic addressed to you on15 Dec 1997:
Ah, JaredBoy. One point at a time as they become applicable.
I see that you're still dodging that old question on Mormon doctrine that haunts you to this day. Why don't you ask a
Mormon if Mormons believe, as you claimed:
The ... LDS... do not regard homosexuality as immoral.
... then after my challenge to the above claim, you provided this followup message where you signifiantly moderated
your claim (actually, you turned it almost 180 degrees -- I'd estimte at least 160):
The LDS reference was to my two earlier references to Representative Jim Kolbe's moving story about
being welcomed home with alacrity and tears by his particular community as well as the numerous
Mormon posters on the Religion thread - which you should also go back and read. These actually
happened, whther you wish to believe it or not. The central authorities, as you suggest, have not
followed the Protestant and Catholic leads as yet, but this is being discussed currently. We'll see.
Now, even after all this time, we haven't gotten past this simple, easily verifiable point. Your first statement is clearly
in direct opposition to your second, so there is little need for you to admit that you vastly overstated your case -- an
embarrassing admission you continue to evade. Now, we obviously have a real live Mormon in our midsts. Let's ask
him.... nathankk, is Jaredboy correct? Woops, looks like he already answered:
Let me state that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints clearly condemns the act of
homosexuality while encouraging the participants to seek spiritual guidance through fasting and
prayer, endurance and repentance in an effort to thwart the practice as would be expected of anyone
wanting to consider themselves in full fellowship with God.
And you never addresed whether or not in your past post you were comparing yourself with Christ and me with the
Pharisees
You never answered. You disappeared from the boards -- like usual when you got cornered. Care to do it before the boards close? :) I
cornered you, you fled and now you remember it in all of the painful detail!
Without a doubt, you (and bacchus) are my very favorite adversaries! C'mon, can't you just lay into me one more time
for old times sakes?? And please feel free to reminesce about anything and everything on this thread!
Was that good enough? ROFL
It was always a fun challenge to debate you, my slippery friend.

[Jared7] - 10:49pm Mar 20, 2001 EST (#192 of 417)

Great one Ditto - much appreciated! Of course, you refused ever to address the Presbyterians, who, even as we speak, are failing to
ratify the proposal to ban the sanctioning of same sex unions. And, of course, you failed ever to address the Reformed Jews and the
Unitarians or the Chicago Methodists or the Buddhists or the Hindus or the Sunni Moslems or any of the other many, many other
religions which don't even come close to what you were saying. And, of course, you never addressed Kolbe and the Methodists either.
And, of course, you never addressed the central issue of the thread either. As I said earlier on the thread, it was you who was backed
into a corner and had to backpeddle and backpeddle and backpeddle and hang your hat only on the Mormons. And you also seem to
forget the LDS'ers who contradicted you and nathankk flatly after you left (for family reasons as I recall) never to return to the
thread. Granted, you probably left because OJ and Sherrie were burying you with totally irrelevant inanities, so I understand, but
you left never to return nontheless. And, of course, the debate continued long after 12/15/97 (without you), but why bother
pointing that out to you. And why bother pointing out all of the things you never addressed to you now (because you're sure to
never address them in any manner whatsoever).
Anyway, it was a lot of fun sparring with you!! And I can most earnestly believe that you saved all of those great debates too!
C'mon - have at me (but be sure to address those Presbys!)
J

ROFL. Still practicin' that ol' shotgun-o-confusion approach, eh, JaredBoy?
Ah, it brings back such fond memories.
Simple counter-tactics thwart such evasive tactics....
it was you who was backed into a corner and had to backpeddle and backpeddle and backpeddle and hang your hat
only on the Mormons
Step-by-step, my friend. Line upon line -- the best counter-tactic to the shotgun-o-fortune.
I clearly demonstrated that you failed with the Mormon argument, but you STILL -- almost 4 years later -- won't admit it.
There's therefore no reason to address your other misrepresentations... you'd just deny the obvious again. I control the debate
(stoptime always hated that!!!)
And you also seem to forget the LDS'ers who contradicted....
Sorry. You can't fool me. Now that the boards are dead, I can tell you more about myself -- now that it can't get us off on a
meaningless tangent-rant, interfering with the substance of the real debate. I'm Mormon. I know Mormon doctrine. Your original
claims of Mormon doctrine were false.
ROFL.Bzzzzzt. You lose -- just in time for the boards to close. Good timing.
Now, how about addressing the fallacy that "Because Jesus never mentioned homosexuality, he MUST have condoned it"? You know,
the crux of your argument. Don't forget to include a detailed examination of the interpretation of the OT prohibition of
homosexuality with respect to the two greatest commandments "upon which the Law and Prophets hang" -- which Christ
specifically condoned. Christ specifically stated that the OT laws were based upon the exact same NT "gospel of love" you claimed
changed everything. How could Christ have construed the NT "love your neighbor" doctrine to actually support the OT prohibition of
homosexual acts? Christ said it. Your statements seem to be at odds with Christ's.
Ah, it brings back such fond memories. :)
Anyway, it's been fun debating with you. I don't like to debate religion, or bring it into political debates. It's not something we
should argue about. And I don't bash homosexuals -- even though I believe that it's dysfnctional behavior. That's just not my style.
That's not "Christian". That "hate the sin, love the sinner" thingy -- something we seem to forget sometimes. One of my favorite
relatives is homosexual.
The only objection I have to your argument is not about religion at all, but about a logicical and fair interpretation of the scriptures
you've chosen to back your argument. I'd never have brought the Bible into the discussion.
I believe you're forcing a politically self-interested interpretation of the scriptures, and that's wrong. Although you may fool some,
you won't convince anyone who knows the scriptures well. And you don't need to try. Misrepresenting the scriptires is dishonest --
and if they really do reflect the thinking of God, you do so at your own risk. And you don't need to use the scriptures for your debate.
There are other more effective arguments at your disposal. Just don't advance such silly arguments. Wasting time on such nonsense
only prevents us from finding an acceptable understanding. Did you ever notice that we never really discussed homosexuality
during that debate? My only effort was an analysis of the factuality your wild claims.

[Jared7] - 12:33am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#194 of 417)

No mention of the Presbys at all, ditto. How typical!! You were directly challenged to address the Presbyterians and you were slippery
and evasive as usual. Why do you not repond to a simple direct challenge?? I am Presbyterian - I know Presbyterian doctrine. Your
abject failure ever to address Presbyterians shows that you lose, as usual.
No mention of the Disciples of Christ, the Methodists, the Unitarians, the Reformed Jews, the Buddhists, the Hindus, the Sunni
Moslems or anything else which you have always (and apparently will always) avoid. Why do you consistently and constantly avoid
direct challenges?? Are you just afraid to discuss anything that anyone brings up??
And as usual, you have nothing whatsoever from Jesus that at all backs up any of your claims. Is it your claim that because Jesus
never mentioned homosexuality (other than the raca reference in Matthew) that he must have condemned it?? Please provide some
sort of proof as that kind of argument remains nonsensical as you well know. Your claims, as you also well know, have nothing to do
with what Christ actually said. He said "love thy neighbor" which doesn't sound to me like "homosexuality is bad; rather, the opoosite.
You can't deal with "love thy neighbor" and so you don't even try. How typical!! It is obvious that you do not wish to discuss the Bible
as you seem to be woefully deficient in discussing the philosophy of love enbodied therein. Too bad! I, on the other hand, am quite
willing to discuss any and all aspects of the Bible (as you aren't) because Christians will understand that we are to love one another
(by the way, I love you man!) and not judge and forgive constantly. Your failure even to attempt to discuss Biblical passages speaks
volumes!
Yes, I noticed that you don't bash gays - which kept the discussion clean and friendly. I certainly appreciate that and have
complimented both you and Rush on it (on other threads) many times. And, I also noted that you have many more effective
arguments at your disposal, but somehow do not use them (and I ain't gonna tell!).
The fact is that the Presbyterians, even as we bloviate at one another, are failing to ratify the ban of which I spoke. The fact is that
the Discliples of Christ are ordaining openly gay and lesbian pastors (with partners) and they weren't just three short years ago.
Progress is being made and I suspect, despite how much you argue, that you are also pleased with this (or at least not too bothered by
it).
Yes, it is loads of fun to talk to you - to see you backpeddle to the Mormons and the Mormons alone with nary a mention of any other
religion or denomination because you know you are on a slippery slope. The whole Mormon issue was brought up in connection
with Congressman Kolbe and you have never even typed his name. And, yes, the discussion did continue after you left (on that and
other threads) but I actually fully understand why you felt frsutrated with the tactics of others who wished to silence you with
ridiculous inanities.
A Salute to my old friend Dittophile! To discuss such contentious issues in a non ad hom way can be very enlightening to all who
read! I will miss you (and I hope you feel the same).
I'm really a lot closer to your positions on many issues than you may realize, but that's another story indeed!

Precision Targeted "Fairness" Isn't Fair! [Dittophile] - 01:02am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#197 of 417)

Hmmmmmm.... Jared sez:

I, on the other hand, am quite willing to discuss any and all aspects of the Bible

ROFL. OK. Then do it. Your original thesis was that because Christ's theology is based upon love he couldn't possibly have condemned
homosexual behavior is wrong:
can you imagine that there are actually some who think that Christ ever or would ever judge/condemn gays and
lesbians? Such a condemnation thesis is at breathtaking variance from the love-centered message of Jesus.
Matt 22:34-41 sez:
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Saducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him
with the question: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"
Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' [Deut 6:5]
This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' [Lev 19:18] All
the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Christ obviously based his "new" theology upon this "old" theology, employing these two commandments as the cornerstones (but
that means that the "new" is not very different from the "old")
As Christ explained, "All the Law and the Prophets" are derived from these two commandments: commandments based upon the pure
love of God and love of your fellow man. Obviously, as Christ clearly stated, every commandment in "Law and the Prophets" is based
upon love of God and mankind: from the prohibitions against murder to those prohibiting eating and touching "unclean" foods.
What did the pure-love based "Law and the Prophets" say about homosexual behavior? The answer is obvious: it condemned it as an
abomination worthy of death -- a penalty reserved only for the most serious sins like murder, adultery, fornication, bestiality...
and... homosexuality. Clearly, the "Law and the Prophets" taught that you can not fully "Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind" and/or "Love your neighbor as yourself" while at the same time engaging in
homosexual behavior.
Don't worry, I didn't take much time writing the above tonight... The above is actually a cut-n-paste of a question I posed to you so
long ago (Aug 98)-- to which you never responded. Are you really "quite willing to discuss any and all aspects of the Bible"????
As to the other religions, there are liberal, moderate and conservative branches of all religions -- all mirror liberal, moderate and
conservative political thinking. Imagine that.
A Salute to my old friend Dittophile! To discuss such contentious issues in a non ad hom way can be very enlightening
to all who read! I will miss you (and I hope you feel the same).
Among all the posters here, there are a few with whom I've really enjoyed debating. You are certainly one of the elite. I always like

can thwart it! I also enjoied my discussions with Fiat Lux for the same reasons (and, Crimson -- who refuses to talk to me anymore
-- and, of course, the ever lovable, Libby) ... only to name a limited few.
And, yes, I will miss you, my friend. I wish you well in life. Perhaps we will meet again either on-line of in, gasp, reallife!

Christ said it. Your statements seem to be at odds with Christ's.

[Jared7] - 01:44am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#231 of 417)

Hmmmm. Ditto has posted yet again and refused to address the Presbyterians, which I have now challenged him THRICE to do (and
tonight - not three years ago). Ditto has posted yet again and has failed to respond to any other religion or denomination
whatsoever. Given that asking him direct questions is apparently a total waste of time, I will ask rhetorically - can Dittophile ever
answer a direct question?? All objective analysts are invited to read the past few posts and answer this question. PLEASE PLEASE
PLEASE DITTO, will you kindly just type the word "Presbyterian" once!! Will you PLEASE address some other religion other than
LDS'ers? Why won't you do this?? Why, oh why, will you never respond to one single direct challenge?? What is it in your make-up
that does not allow you to discuss one single question that you are asked?? All hangs on your very next post ditto - you will either
address Presbyterians and other religions and denominations or you will not! The world wonders ...
Ditto, I answered your question directly oh so many years ago, but you were apparently WAY too busy avoiding ever mentioning the
word "Presbyterian" and "Kolbe" to notice. To anyone with a passing familiarity with the Sermon on the Mount, Christ indeed said
what you quoted and then he launched into numerous specific examples where he specifically reinterpreted the old covenant in
new and different ways. I am not surprised that you are totally unfamiliar with this lengthy passage because it contains the "raca"
reference which, arguably, is the only reference he even made in the reported scriptures to gays. In fact, the "raca" reference is
DIRECTLY after the portion you quoted. (The raca reference (Matthew 5:22), as you should know, is where Jesus tells us not to label
people as "raca" which some etymologists have taken to mean "effeminate" or "gay", that is, Jesus specifically reinterprets the law of
the prophets relating to gays).
The familiar Sermon on the Mount starts with ditto's reference but then, and some may know this by heart, goes into specific
reinterpretations of the "Law of the Prophets" on adultery (5:27 - he condemns even thinking about it); divorce (5:31); oaths (5:33);
an eye for an eye (5:38); love for enemies (5:43); giving to the needy (6:1); prayer (6:5); fasting (6:16); treasures in heaven (6:19) and
judging (7:1) and I'm leaving out a lot. That is, immediately after the quote from ditto, there is passage after passage after passage
where Jesus lays down new laws/guidance to follow that are quite at variance from the OT and the Mosaic covenant (and perhaps
more close to the Davidic covenant). It is simply impossible to read the Sermon and come away with any other conclusion than Jesus
reinterpreting the "Law of The Prophets" on issue after issue after issue. I honestly don't believe ditto has ever read the Sermon if
he really believes the pabulum above. More likely, he is just using a debating tactic designed to make me actually quote the Sermon
back to him. I suggest that ditto read the entire Sermon (and everyone else) - it is very clear what is going on. Jesus's
"commandments" (actually it's debatable as to their binding character but that's a whole nuther issue) are VERY different from the
descriptions of male shrine prostitution going on in the Mosaic period. To assert that they aren't is just idiotic.
The Sermon on the Mount is from Jesus and directly refutes any and all of ditto's claims. Jesus tells us not to bash people like they did
in the OT and Jesus goes into great detail about other issues as well. For Christians, this should be dispositive as I pointed out to ditto
years ago, but he skipped the post apparently. (Luckily, ditto actually seems to follow Jesus' advice in his behavior, it's just that he
won't admit it in debate).
And as I usually briefly summarize, all of this is encapsulated in "love thy neighbor" which is what gays do (and what Jesus did).
Jesus hung out with adulterers and racas and others because he preached that we should all love them too. Ditto knows this - he just
wants to make me type and type and type for his own gratuitous pleasure.
The fact is that Christianity is a loving religion, as open to gays and lesbians as any religion, including Buddhists, Hindus, most
Moslems, Zorastrians, and everybody else. Most sects and denominations are beginning to recognize this (if they haven't already -
(most Buddhists tell me Christianity is woefully slow on this)and this is a very good thing (as I think ditto agrees).

Tell me... does anyone else see the illogic in this...
A bio teacher I know who is rabidly anti abortion claims to base her opinion on the following chain...
That Biology is the *Study of Life*... (yeah, ok)
That for something to be *alive* it has to be able to take in nutrition, grow, respire in some way and reproduce itself... (ok..)
That one celled organisms can do all those things. (Again, yeah ok...)
That *where you have one cell you have life*.... (well... possible but not always...)
That since one celled organisms are alive, and since an egg cell is a one celled organism, then that egg cell is *alive*...
I think that by her logic every woman who doesn't get pregnant this month, and who's body flushes out that egg, is guilty of
murder...
Oh... and egg cells are alive, but she refused to comment on whether sperm cells were...
There is a lack of flow to that logic, do you agree?

Les personnes faibles ne peuvent être sincères. [surferchicklet] - 01:50am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#236 of 417)

I mean... an egg cell has the potential to be alive... maybe... but then wood has the potential to burn... because it can that doesn't
mean it does...
If some thing has to be able to reproduce to be alive does that mean that those of us who can't have kids aren't alive? Or kids... they
can't reproduce themselves until they are into their second decade... is that when they come to life?
This teacher is not Catholic, btw, but is religious...
She lectures on this in class and kids take notes on her opinion as well...

Jared: as far as I am concerned, you are one the brightest people to come around here and I do hope you are joking when you say
you think i hate you! CERTAINLY NOT THE CASE! LOL (whatever gave you that idea?) I disagreed strongly (still do) on what went down
with NATO at that time. But NEVER think that I disliked you in the slightest, then, now, or forever! ; 0 )

Breaking up is hard to do [FAUFORDE] - 08:55am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#251 of 417)

Ohhhh Jared, you and your Dittophile arguments. You know darn well, his ego is way too enormous to ever admit he was in error.
But, you do have fun.

namida [NinianH] - 09:48am Mar 21, 2001 EST (#252 of 417)

You are so happy in your memories.....
I am reluctant to post this.
Remember the US Constitution
Remember the gratuitous bombings of Kosovo
Remember the children who died in Oklahoma City (the case has not been resolved)
Remember the various "gates" which our country endured during the life of TOL
Remember America the way she was 40 years ago--a decent place to raise children
Remember Waco and the anquish of this event and still we are not resolved.....
Remember millions and millions of dollars spent by a president who said he cared about the poor and the oppressed
Remember the dumbing down of our school children and their being forced into to submission using drugs
Remember life before we had to deal with the purposeful destruction of a viable baby via partial-birth abortion
Remember your parents now before we decide that the elderly should be put to death via humane means
Remember riding your bikes to school, and the leaves in spring, and the world was right....
Keep our country free. Stop arguing against our heritage, Stop funding those who wish to destroy us.
Goodbye. Goodbye. Goodbye.....You have good in your hearts. Honor that good.

You mean like running and jumping under your desk in "atomic-war drills" - getting in a fetal position and learning how to kiss
your ass good-bye?
God these Conserva-Nazis are f*ckin' stupid.
In her case the reason she has such fond memories of those days is that it was the last time she was able to see her feet - and looking
over her gut even then made it a challenge. The addition of 150 lbs probably didn't help.
OTOH - it would help her find a Conserva-Nazi husband - they like their women fat, dumb and ugly - just like their mothers.

Probably because I'm a little older than you - but I've heard enough of these freaks - starting over 36 years ago with the John Birch
Society and their claims that flouride in drinking water was a Communist plot to take over America.
And that was one of their more lucid positions - FOX-News is borne out of that "mentality" - go figure.

Jolly!! Of course it was a joke! - I've just been relentlessly baiting everyone to try to make this thread not die.:-) Like that
tremendously arrogant Blue Lime who continues to boycott for no apparent reason. Hey, how'd you like dittophile and me last
night?? Any pleasant or not-so-pleasant memories?? Nice to see you!
And that twillard, who wouldn't know a statistically significant poll if it was a bear and it bit him!
Anyone, and I mean anyone, who opposed NATO is a gravy-sucking pig!

great thread which he ignored and he started his own and guess which one took off and which one was ignored??!!)

Massachusetts where I live?

Hi Anton!! We each started an initiative thread and yours took off and mine shot straight to the bottom! I was just joshing/baiting
you - PLEASE do not take what I said seriously!! You are one of my all-time fave posters - your fantastic political acumen, your
amazing intelligence, your unmatched ability to get right to the heart of a question is without peer! You are the greatest - well,
Muhammed Ali was the greatest, but you're close!

You know, Jared, Tirebiter once explained the Dittophile Arguing Style, I have it somewhere, maybe I could post it here and you can
see if your argument with D follows.
I have it saved somewhere because it was so darn accurate.....

[Jared7] - 01:27pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#275 of 417)

Fau, unfortunatly, I am now convinced that ditto is not Rush. Noone who got into like we did last night would fail to allude to it on his
radio show (as Rush has so far failed to do), so now I think ditto is David Limbaugh, Rush's bro. I'm seriously bummed, and Anton
going off on me has just added to my woes.
I am JOKING guys!
J

Anton [Anton] - 01:29pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#276 of 417)

Jared:
Bad me. I am all too sensitive.
In fact, I archived my threads on term limits, the impeachment only because I spent many hours researching, and I believe I
counted over 5000 posts, going back to January, 1997.
Your thread here is quite enjoyable and clearly you are a great judge of people and character. LOL.

Anton [Anton] - 01:31pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#277 of 417)

Yep the G4 smokes. Have a few problems. Since I installed 9.1 it doesn't sleep automatically.
But my OS X comes next week and will see what that does.

Breaking up is hard to do [FAUFORDE] - 01:33pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#279 of 417)

Here it is, I found it.
It's developed by Tirebiter, and I hope he doesn't mind that I repost it here...it is a good Memory....
This actually gives us a rather useful perspective on how Rusty Limbaugh himself would act, were he to ever allow himself to be
confronted with a reasoned rebuttal to his "arguments".
While I would never suggest that Ditto has the intelligence nor the savvy to do Mr. Limbaugh justice, he has appropriated some of
the PigHead's style.
First, and of key importance, is to frame an argument around an anecdote. Ditto has even helped to establish that the anecdote need
not be true. But the argument must be based upon an emotional construct that proves that the intended audience has been slighted.
Next, when challenged, demand that the challenger accept his nefarious participation in the evil construct.
If the challenger refuses to participate, start flinging epithets. "Fights like a girl" is a good one, as Ditto (and, likely Rusty) has
heard it, and been deeply hurt by it, all of his life.
If the challenger challenges the argument itself, accuse the challenger of avoiding the issue by not accepting responsibility.
If the challenger challenges the anecdote, demand an apology for being called a liar. It's always useful to suggest that the
challenger is the liar for calling the source a liar.
If the challenger challenges the source of the anecdote, or the argument, belittle the challenger for not doing his research, even if
said research can only be derived from the same dubious source.
If the challenger finally gives up on the useless exercise, call the challenger a coward. The whole point of the exercise is to win, so
as to prove to the intended audience that the construct was true, and that the challenger is a participant.
At all points along the "debate", declare victory. Making buzzer sounds helps to add a realistic flair, especially amongst those in the
audience who need cues.
Keep score. And insist on the proper order. If the challenger demands an answer, remind the challenger that he has never
provided an adequate response to any of several challenges himself, even if the challenges are spurious, or have been answered.
Always remind the audience that the challenger is avoiding something, even if he is not. If the challenger denies that he has
avoided challenges, add this to the litany of deflections.
There's more to come, BTW, including denying having said something, even if you've said it, and, of course, the classic "I was only
kidding/using hyperbole/making a fool of you" when denial won't cut it.

[Jared7] - 01:34pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#280 of 417)

Anton, thanks! See what I mean. Susie was the only poster to visit my iniative thread (cause she's so kind and nice and sensitive to
my feelings) and Silver Fox was the only one to visit my banking law reform thread (because he hated the very idea of even
discussing the issue) and I could go on and on. The only way I get people to visit my threads is to relentlessly bait them until they
can't resist!
faufordemeister, I would be interested in any decriptions of the ditto arguing style, but as I think I summarized last night (while I
was in my serious gay religious zealot mode), his primary tactic is to never let the words "Presbyterian" or "Kolbe" ever either
escape from his lips or from his typing!
J

Breaking up is hard to do [FAUFORDE] - 01:35pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#281 of 417)

Yep. Sounds like Ditto hasn't changed much.

[Jared7] - 01:39pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#282 of 417)

Shhh fauforde, some might accuse me of actually using some of those tactics myself! High school and college debating was fun and
highly useful for boards like this!
J

Anton [Anton] - 01:47pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#283 of 417)

Here ya go. My earliest post that I have archived:
"Message: BBA Author: Anton (suston@cape.com) Date: Jan 19 1997 8:15AM
An excellent and well focused discussion. I hope it stays that way.
As some have already suggested, it takes 218 vote in the House to balance the budget. The responsibility and the challenge is with the
Congress.Again, as someone has suggested, if they can't or won't do it, let's get others whowill or can.
I hope everyone in this discussion has seen a copy of the proposed amendment. It's last year's warmed over but it still does not
balance the budget! And it insidiously does something that does not belong in a representative democracy, or at the very least,
should be used as seldomly as possible - the concept of the super-majority. This would end majority rule as we know it and give
unprecedented power to struggling minority parties.
Term Limits, Balanced Budget Amendment, both designed and intended to cripple the people's branch, the Congress. As some have
pointed out already. such an impotent legislature will leave power in the Executive and the Judiciary. Is this democracy?
Or perhaps, after more than two hundred years, we are finding that representative democracy just doesn't work for us."
Damn was I verbose, or what? I am glad I got over that.
(BBA was the Balanced Budget Amendment topic. I don't think I started it. Maybe I did. May have been one my early hi-jackings).

[Jared7] - 01:53pm Mar 21, 2001 EST (#284 of 417)

Verbose?? Nah... I'd say you were overly wordy and redundant and perhaps a bit prolix, but definetly not verbose!
Hey, I'm the one accused of authoring War and Peace tomes that everyone just scrolls through!

Prolix?
Yeah, that too.
Herb:
As I stated, I archived my threads that contained much research and excellent content from a number of people who debated the
topics.
All good stuff for a book or two I have in the planning stages right now.
