ADULTING
14 April 2018, 11:34
I always have felt kind of like an adult. But not like a real adult. I knew I’d get by when I had to, and I solved problems as they came up. I was even put in the role of mother/head of household type adult. I handled bills, and problems. Cooked (barely), cleaned, and always tried to keep on top of things, but I never really FELT like I was adult sized. I was the mini fun sized bar of snickers.
Now. I’m beginning to feel that way. I’ve had to take on a lot more responsibility. And not just in the way of making sure there’s something to eat, and I have a place to live. I feel like an adult with resources and power. It’s probably a small thing to you who’ve already been doing this for a long time, but its a world I never really entered. I never had the option of entering before. The world of Adulting on an advanced plane. I’ve leveled up to the advanced game. Quite exciting.
Now, I’ll list examples, but I know that’s for a lot of you, its not a real accomplishment… you all can STFU for a little while and let me be proud.
I have a job, 401k and I started some investiment accounts. I had these before, but I am only now able to do it again.
I have real insurance on cars, not just the fake stuff I would make with illustrator and photoshop.
I have just gotten renter’s insurance, because, well. hell. I can afford it. And if anybody breaks into my house to steal my stuff which is apparently worth a $35,000 payout, I’m covered. If it all burns up in a fire or something else happens, I am covered.
I have the PLUS level AAA. Not just the basic. The PLUS level. Because me and cars don’t seem to get along well.
I have/going to have a car payment. That’s not so hot. But. Whaddayagonnado.
I have three credit cards, all in good standing, all I have never missed a payment on.
I have a $1500 credit line on ebay.
I will have a mortgage, as soon as I figure out my life.
I just get a warm feeling that I am able to do Adulting on this level. And that I will always be all right.
On the downside, I have not yet gotten a toaster.
